Lt Col Allen West Recovers After Motorcycle Accident

Former Florida Congressman LTC Allen West was released from a Texas hospital following a motorcycle crash after a ‘Free Texas Rally’ Saturday. He and another motorcyclist were cut off by a car braking in front of them, causing the two to collide.

The accident occurred on a stretch of Interstate 35, outside Waco, Tx. West and another cyclist were airlifted in stable condition to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center—Hillcrest in Waco where he was treated for a concussion, several fractures and multiple lacerations, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

“I am alive by the grace of God,” West said.

Previously that day, West had led the Corona Virus protest rally calling for a total reopening of the state, rather than Governor Greg Abbott’s phased reopening.

“No one has the right to tell you that you’re not essential,” West said during the rally, according to the Statesman.

In a series of posts using the hashtag #PrayersForAllen, “Team West” reported that a car had cut off West while he was riding his motorcycle, causing West to collide with another motorcyclist.

West has received a cascade of well wishes from his supporters. President Trump even tweeted, “Allen, get well soon!”

“Thank you for your prayers and support,” a previous post stated. “He will be taking a week off to recoup and looks forward to seeing you all again soon.”

“I am alive by the grace of God,” West said.

West, who during his term in Congress had called for the impeachment of former U.S. President Barack Obama, is currently running for chairman of the Texas Republican Party.
