Second Soldier Killed at Ali Al Salem Air Base, Kuwait

Staff Sergeant Ronald J. Ouellette, 23, was killed in a vehicle accident on September 14, in Kuwait, where he was supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.

This was a non-combat related accident involving a single-all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) that happened on the flightline at the Ali Al Salem Air Base in Kuwait. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Oulette is originally from Merrimack, New Jersey and was assigned to the 42nd Aerial Port Squadron, Westover Air Reserve Base, Massachusetts.

This is the second death within days at the base. The first incident occurred on September 12, when Senior U.S. Airman Jason Khai Phan, 26 died in a single vehicle non-combat related accident while conducting a routine patrol outside the perimeter of the base.

A statement from the DOD clarified that the accidents are unrelated.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and teammates of our two Airmen who we have recently lost. These two Airmen were beloved members of our wing and tragically died while serving our nation. While this is an extremely difficult time for our wing, we will continue to lean on and support one another,” said Col. Henry Triplett, commander of the 386th Air Expeditionary Wing at Ali Al Salem.
